If the smallest model in the Cadillac SUV lineup is perhaps a little too small for your commuting needs around Woodbridge, Vaughan, Brampton, Kleinburg, Mississauga, and the Greater Toronto Area, the 2024 Cadillac XT5 is a step up in size without going over the top. The 2024 XT5 has a spacious and luxurious interior that’s wonderfully hushed when you’re on the move, excellent engines, lots of standard and available technology, and all the style, luxury, and presence you’d expect from a Cadillac.
If you have any recent experience with Cadillac crossover SUVs, you’ll probably be familiar with how the available XT5 trim levels line up. Three models are available: the entry-level XT5 Luxury, mid-range XT5 Premium Luxury, and the range-topping XT5 Sport. Unlike its smaller sibling, the Premium Luxury and Sport models do not share equal billing or the same starting MSRP.
The base model is standard front-wheel drive with AWD available, while the Premium Luxury and Sport models get AWD as part of their standard specifications. All three models have signature Cadillac exterior styling that’s full of presence and even boasts rear lights that invoke memories of those classic Cadillac tailfins of the past. The whole look is appropriately modern and cutting-edge without going too sci-fi and becoming polarizing. For the new model year, the Sport trim level is now available with Blue accent, Bronze accent, and Red accent appearance packages for an extra dose of style and panache.
The performance of the 2024 Cadillac XT5 strikes a nice balance. There’s enough power available to deliver confident and appropriate performance, while the suspension soaks up the bumps for a smooth and comfortable ride. Luxury and Premium Luxury models come with a standard 2.0-litre turbo-four under the hood that develops 235 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque. It’s the only engine for the base model, but the Premium Luxury is available with the larger engine.
That larger engine is a 3.6-litre V-6, providing the XT5 with 310 horsepower and 271 lb.-ft. of torque. It’s the standard powerplant if you choose the range-topping XT5 Sport trim level, but you get more than just the engine upgrade if you buy the top trim. The XT5 Sport also has 6-piston front Brembo brakes, red-painted front and rear calipers, a heavy-duty cooling system, and a performance suspension setup. Regardless of which engine, trim level, or drivetrain you choose, the power gets to the wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission.
The standard features and equipment are impressive at every level with the 2024 Cadillac XT5. However, there’s also plenty of scope for tailoring the XT5 to suit your particular style and needs with an extensive list of available options. Standard safety features include automatic emergency braking, following distance indicator, forward collision alert, front pedestrian braking, front and rear park assist, lane keep assist with lane departure warning, and an HD rear vision camera.
Apart from the powertrains, the Premium Luxury and Sport specifications are very similar. The standard equipment is as generous as you’d expect at this level, and the available options include an 8.0-inch diagonal colour driver information centre, adaptive cruise control, automatic parking assist, a head-up display, and even night vision.
The 2024 Cadillac XT5 is a superb all-rounder of a luxury compact crossover SUV for anyone who doesn’t need a third-row seat. The XT5 looks sensational, drives great, and there’s all the luxury and technology standard available that you could wish for.
